A common goal

The girls’ U16 championship winning team following their gold medal last year can prove their qualities this year in the youth (U18) age group.

Head coach dr. Péter Woth their aim can be in the new season to reach the playoffs again, whereas by reducing the number of matches the individual skills of the players can be put to the forefront.

Last year cannot be compared to this year. We try to keep the good things and forget the rest, but of course it's not that simple – talking about the pre-season situation with dr. Péter Woth. – It is true that we could win the U16 championship last year, but this year these girls will play against opponents who are three or four years older than there. We do not know the other teams yet, no information about what squads will be presented by them for each match, we can only see with certainty that some will also include players born in 2000. Therefore, at this moment it is hard to tell where our level is in comparison, but we will try to win every match.”

The squad will only have slight changes, but from now on there will be more movement between one team and another.

„Concerning the training group, I basically work with the U16 champions of last year, but we will try to look at the first and second teams of the academy as one. This means that the younger players also move up and from the older ones some will move down to us. Our goal is to reach the playoffs, so we shape the squads with the coach of the first team of NEKA, Szilárd Kiss jr. according to that plan.”

As it has been said several times, this year the individual development of the players is the most important goal, the reason why the professionals of NEKA work together.

„I hope that we will rotate the players good enough to make our opponents work hard for victory. I think we have a strong team, in defence it is way ahead of its age group, and if we can provide a good goalkeeper background to that, then we only must figure out our attack. We work during the week in a way that the girls know and see what our goals are.

It is likely that everyone will have a lower number of matches, and this way there will be more room for work on individual and technical skills, sometimes divided by positions.  Fortunately, the academy has developed a training method that keeps all kids in rotation with all the coaches, so it should not pose a problem if somebody moves up or down between teams. This can be supported by everyone applying the elements of the oldest team in his/her tactical work” – closed dr. Péter Woth his season starting thoughts.
