The program is dense with day-to-day training and matches, but many still perform well at school or study competitions, such as Blanka Vajer, who passed a successful advanced level English exam last week. Language learning and language exams play an increasingly important role in continuing with tertiary education, as they are now a prerequisite for college and university enrolment.
„Since for my grade it is obligatory to get a B2 level foreign language certificate for participation in tertiary education and it does not provide extra entry points, it was definitely necessary for me to take the C1 advanced level language exam. I have been studying English since elementary school, and in the 9th grade I passed the intermediate level exam, and last year I took a high school leaving exam in advance. I went to an external English teacher, once a week before or after training. I tried to solve as many language exercises as I could and studied from a separate book by myself as well” – explained Blanka about why it was important for her to go for the exam.
Our academy student prepared for the exam on her own, very often she could only do that late in the evening.
„I tried to study as much as possible in the summer, between national team and pre-season trainings. Usually I managed to find time in the evening. I did not always have the power and the mood for it, just as during the school year to do my normal school assignments, but for me, besides handball, learning is also very important. Succeeding in both directions often causes headaches when it comes to scheduling, and there are times when it means learning into the night, even after a game.”
Blanka is going to have matriculation at the Matthias King Secondary School (Mátyás Király Gimnázium) in Fonyód this year, trying to do well also at school later.
„I would like to go to a legal career, with the Law Faculty of Pázmány Péter University being the number one choice on my wish list. Studying takes a lot out of people, but I think I can say in the name of many that we do our best to develop ourselves in both sports and studying, because that is the reason why we all came to the academy” – said Blanka Vajer to our homepage.
