The academy students of last year naturally help their younger colleagues.
“We »inherited«five players from the squad of last season, the other ones are new, so as a team we started anew. The elder players have the task of introducing NEKA life to the new ones, on one hand inside the court, on the other hand in matters associated with dormitory and school. As far as I can see it, the girls did solve that well and could help the newcomers.”
The game imagined by Beáta Siti takes a lot of practice and time, but the players are motivated by every training session.
„On the court besides the fact that the teams of NEKA play according to the one particular system, every coach has the possibility to realise oneself. We try to use two different defence systems, but we are still in the process of getting to know each other, and they also are getting acquainted with the picture I would like to see on the court. The kids receive a lot of new information, some of the things they have heard before, but these tasks are not easy to put into practice and use them in match situations. We are at the very beginning of the journey, the season is long, but we are keen to work together for our goals. We have some basic variations to start off with, but the final pass, the last decision to make is up to them.”
Some results of the work started in August are visible, but often eyes from the outside see them better than the head coach herself.
„Video is the perfect solution to fix errors, so everyone can see their own right or wrong moves. It is true that they are kids, but fortunately very receptive to learn new things. I admit I am sometimes impatient, but my coaching colleagues – who see the players less frequently, so they have a better perception of development – reassure me that we shall summarize the period gone by in December. I can see many times good moves from one player or another, and although some errors come from the lack of technical skills, the reason what we train for week in, week out is that the girls improve in this sense.
Beáta Siti would be satisfied with a team that is motivated and plays with consciousness by the end of the season.
„Ball technique is extremely important, since the speed and the quality of the passes determines the quality of the game. If this could be realised, then our attack could include improvised moves, we would not have to announce instructions, because the players would know why they do the things they do. Of course, this needs plenty of time and practice. Well, there are things that I already expect from team members to do. We might have a bad day, we may make mistakes, the opponent may be better than us, but a NEKA player must be off to a flying start when it is time to run back and nobody shall be stronger than us in terms of willpower” – as Beáta Siti explained for our homepage.
