Heading to the World Championships!

2019. November 11, Monday 21:45 | Talent Development

Two of our former students, Noémi Pásztor and Petra Vámos received invitations to join the 18-person squad of the women’s national team for the World Championships.

The roster announced by national team head coach Kim Rasmussen includes several young players, among them the pivot of Ferencváros and the playmaker of Debrecen. The World Championships, a qualifying tournament for the Olympics, will be held in Japan from 30 November.

The talented players have been showing brilliant performances in their respective first division clubs, and the Danish head coach has had an eye for that, inviting both NEKA-educated players into the squad. Noémi Pásztor was a member of the junior national team winning the world championship title in Debrecen in 2018 and besides having played in Rasmussen’s team as well already. While for Petra Vámos, a European youth champion could participate in the training camp of the national team for the first time this autumn, thus for her the invitation has been a surprise.

“After the EHF Cup match against Jagodina, the head coach himself told me the good news. I was really surprised; I didn't expect it at all. This squad is incredibly strong, I can hardly believe I have been offered this chance” – said a happy Petra Vámos.

“I was very happy to hear that I did succeed to be included in the 18-person squad and can travel with the team. I am not anxious about it but looking forward to it very much” – reacted Noémi Pásztor to the news of making it to the squad.

The national team will travel to South Korea at the end of November to participate in the Seoul Cup, and will then continue to prepare directly for the World Championships in Kumamoto, the tournament venue.
