The boys play in two championships this season as they also show their skills week by week in the second division of the U18 (youth) league.
“In both series good results are of secondary importance for us, since I only began working with the boys now and I have no fewer than twenty new players – depicted Zoltán Lehőcz the beginnings. – If I had to choose, then I would prefer having better final placement in the U16 championship. We put more emphasis on this one, because regarding the age group this is closer to us. The youth championship serves the purpose to provide playing time for everyone of us. I would like to see our game evolve in both arenas, to move forward gradually on an individual and on a team level as well.”
Last season the team completed an excellent spring streak, performed very well and collected many more points than in the autumn rounds.
„This year we attempt to strive for the same, I formulated it for the kids something like if we really need to talk about results, then let us score more points in the spring. I have to add that we kicked off the season pretty well, so the spectacular improvement can be harder to produce than last year. Anyhow, the teams that we play close matches with, we would like to beat in a few months. The ones who are way ahead of us, we would like to get closer to, and the ones who were beaten by us, we shall beat again in the return rounds.”
Out of the matches that have been played so far, the U16 derby against Veszprém on their home court comes up as a top experience, which can further inspire the boys.
„I very much hope that the victory over there gives them confidence, however, I noticed that the current generation cannot really enjoy success; they think it is there, and inside they expect even more from themselves. We must be very glad about this, Veszprém had begun going the same route as us, we could meet them every year at the championships for each and every age group, I am hopeful that the good streak will give us strength to carry on.”
The head coach has to manage putting together a good, solid team from the many talented boys who arrived this year to the academy.
„There are noticeable differences between the shape of the players, be it fitness, technical or tactical skills, plus they used to play in other systems in their clubs. Therefore, it is important to stress that they need at least half a year until they can achieve an accountable performance. I shall compliment the kids who have taken up this job well, their workload is bigger, but they like it, they enjoy training and would like to learn, they pay attention and try to work in a way so that we can reach the level we have set our sights on” – Zoltán Lehőcz summarising his experience.
