Several NEKA students skip shaving in these weeks, as they join the campaign called Movember – a combination between the words of moustache and November – and hand over a symbolic moustache to male colleagues reminding everyone of the importance of preventing cancer.
Under the leadership of Zsófia Kádi, deputy director, the College of the Academy aims to engage young people in discussing socially sensitive issues on a regular basis. This time Edit Szakál Antal, health care assistant spoke to the children about the symptoms and prevention of illnesses affecting men.
Several venturesome boys paid visits to NEKA men's staff and drew their attention to this campaign by presenting them a symbolic moustache and information booklet.
The Movember or No shave movement seeks to focus on diseases that are common for men, but can be detected in time and treated with good success if regular screenings take place.
The point of No Shave November is that men do not shave at all for 1 month. The point of this is not to grow crazy and unkempt beards, but to raise awareness of various cancers, especially prostate cancer. This is the second most common malignancy in men.
