NEKA professional day: injuries seen through the doctor’s eyes

2019. November 02, Saturday 19:13 | Education

More than 150 experts have indicated their intention to participate in the first open professional day organized by the National Academy of Handball (NEKA) on 11 November in Balatonboglár.

The high-quality program will feature NEKA coaches and professionals in demonstration trainings and lectures. In the closing presentation, dr. Balázs Lohner will offer an insight into the injuries of handball players through the eyes of a doctor.

Besides NEKA, dr. Balázs Lohner also works at the Department of Sports Surgery of the National Institute of Sports Health and is the chief physician of the Hungarian women's national handball team, thus he sees injured athletes on a daily basis.

“The focal points of my presentation will be the cruciate ligament injuries that are common in handball. It has to be made clear that the number of serious injuries has risen lately, and that depends on a number of factors. I try to go through all the causes, including the overload of players due to the very frequent league and cup programme. In addition, I try to prioritize prevention, stressing the importance of it, and what needs to be looked at after injuries or in case of a surgery by athletes and other professionals alike” – said dr. Balázs Lohner.
