Where are they now? Former National Academy of Handball (NEKA) students in the top division

2020. October 13, Tuesday 14:30 | Talent Development

The players on the Boglár Academy-SZISE team who received their education by NEKA will certainly not be playing yet in the top division (NB I) for a few days, but some fomer students of the Academy do play in NB I league clubs as well as abroad, proving their qualities week by week. Let us take a look at what happened to them.

Nina Szabó, who graduated from NEKA this June and was already on loan for the Kisvárda team in the spring, has been a real key player in the 2020–2021 season. The eighteen-year-old playmaker leads the team scoring list with 23 goals, and in the most recent round in the league, she took a leading role in defeating the team of Békéscsaba, as she was hitting the net a total of eight times.

Petra Vámos also has great performances on offer for the third placed Debrecen team, she found the opponents' net 28 times in seven league matches. On the occasion of the most recent success of her team against Siófok, she scored eight goals alone, making her the most successful player in the field.

Every week, Csenge Fodor can train and play among the best by being a part of the Audi ETO KC championship and Champions League matches in Győr. The twenty-one-year-old left-wing player always does add even more quality to the team, scoring spectacular goals. Head coach Gábor Danyi is counting on her and can send her to the field in international matches as well. Playing next to Anita Görbicz, Csenge can learn a lot, and with time can get more chance to prove and show what she is capable of.

Kitti Szabó, who has moved from Vác to Érd, seems to have found her place, as she is the playmaker there with 21 goals in six matches, and takes advantage of the opportunities that have been presented to her by changing clubs.

At Dunaújváros, Dorina Román is first on the scoring list of the club, head coach Attila Vágó called her from Orosháza to the red-and-whites, and it seems to have been a good decision. As a wing player, Natalie Schatzl coming from Érd can put her form on display in league matches. Noémi Pásztor continues to be on duty as a pivot with Ferencváros, while Nikolett Sallai plays and develops with MTK as a wing player in the top division.

Among our goalkeepers, Lili Herczeg shows excellent performances in the net with table- leading Mosonmagyaróvár, Bernadett Dányi in Fehérvár, while Kitty Mistina defends the net in Békéscsaba from week to week, where Laura Giricz is also on the team.

Looking over to the men’s side, Dániel Kecskés made a fine debut. He was able to play not only in the NB I, but also in the Champions League. The nineteen-year-old right-wing has scored five goals in three top division games and will hopefully take advantage of the opportunity that awaits him among the best.

Telekom Veszprém has sent Zoran Ilics on loan to the Polish side Wisla Plock until December, so the young left-handed player can try his luck not only in the Polish league but also in the EHF European League. Uros Borzas moved to France and has already scored his first goals for the team of Toulouse and was on the field of his team’s key match against PSG. Bence Mikita plays his handball for the club of San Jose Obrero in Spain.

As the goalkeeper of Ferencváros, Kristóf Győri can nicely further develop his talents, while as a backcourt player, Zsolt Schäffer can help the green-and-whites, although this year the team has only played three league matches so far.

Gyula Kerkovits, who scored 12 goals in four matches in Csurgó, started his third season, while Marcell Gábor just arrived to the team from Budakalász this year.

Most of our former handball players are on the Dabas team, Milán Váczi and Ádám Török came from Budakalász, and in addition to them Kevin ZatureczkiTamás Győrvári and Máté Kurucz strengthen the squad.

The young Nándor Bognár has to perform in the colours of Tatabánya, among experienced players, as a pivot he has not got an easy task, but time should work for him.

Miron Paizs and Bence Bálint are also members of the squad, and the latter, following his knee surgery will be able to play for Vladan Matics’s side soon.

Bence Papp, left-handed backcourt player for Gyöngyös, who had a great season last year, was also injured. Plans are to include him on the team playing against Telekom Veszprém on Saturday, so he can present himself in this season, too. Márk Kovács who could not play for a long time after his knee surgery, but this year he moved to the Eger team, is already completing a full training schedule, and scored two goals in the first and so far only league match played.

In Komló, we can support Tamás Csomor and Sándor Dobi, while in Cegléd we can cheer for the good performances of Gergő SpekhardtBence BarthaBálint Somogyi and the NEKA player on loan, Péter Tóth all play for the newcomer Veszprém KKFT.

From this long list it is clearly visible that the knowledge gained at NEKA can be well converted for top-level handball in Hungary, our students have become useful members of their new clubs in the first division of the national championships.
